Dear Folks,
Still somewhat raw and cold. Raining a little bit today. This makes the 4th rainy First Day. It was clear a couple of days this week and one day we had a slight flurry of snow.
This week we started work on some new warehouses. They are 500×50 ft. and 35 in all. Sounds like an all summer’s job for us unless they put a bigger gang or some other bunch takes our place.
The last bunch of mail I get certainly made good time. Thy letter of the 26th and Mary’s of April 1st reached me on April 17. That is about the best time yet.
Friday night the Craig Players from U.S. gave a show in the Y.M.C.A. entitled “Baby Mine” a comedy in three acts. It was as good as anything of the kind that I have seen since I left the U.S. Examine that money closely and see if it does not agree with the page out of the book I mentioned in my letter of last week.
From now on I think I will write to you folks one week and to Mary the next in this way I can answer both of your letters without sending the same news in different letters to the same place.
I had expected to be on my furlough by this time but those things are stopped for the present. Expect they will be granted again when conditions become more settled.
It seems queer I have met but that one fellow that I knew, and now he has gone to the Front. I expect there are lots of people over here that I know, but I have not run into them.
Tell Grandpap building his chicken houses has turned out to be good experience for me. If the war lasts long enough I may be a carpenter yet.
Lovingly,
Joel
