Dear Folks,
My second Xmas in France. Much more pleasant than the last. Today we had no reveille, breakfast at 8:30, no work, dinner at 2 PM and it was the biggest meal I have had in the army. Turkey, roasted, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cocoa, 1/4 of an apple pie (a piece), jam and besides we each got a pound of chocolate candy issued.
It certainly was a good dinner. Much better than last year and other conditions are much better. Last year at this time we were sleeping in a cow stable and we ate our Xmas dinner standing in a foot of snow with the thermometer around zero. This year we had a building to eat in and tables to set at and barracks to sleep in.
Today was the warmest Xmas day I ever saw. Very warm, but as usual rain.
I don’t seem to be able to write a letter anymore. All I can think about is going home. Don’t know anything definite about it yet. Hope you folks are allright and comfortable.
Best of love,
Joel
