Dear Aunt Hattie,
Thy letter Feb 10 reached here a couple days ago. Made very good time. Came in about two weeks.
We are still in Brest and have no idea how much longer we are going to be here. However, during the last few days the rumors have been a trifle more encouraging. The biggest part of the construction work in the camp seems to be about finished but of course there is still a lot of fixing to be done. There seems to be a lot of discussion in the papers about conditions here.
As far as myself, I have nothing to say till I get home.
I had today off for working. First Day so am spending the day in town. Am writing this in the Navy Y.M.C.A. My job in the officers kitchen ended last night when the fellow for whom I was substituting came back from his furlough. The hours were long but I will surely miss the good eating.
A person’s mind is on his eating quite a bit over here. In fact there are only three things for a person to think about just now, work, eating, and going home.
Must close for this time, as I really have no news, am only writing to cover paper.
Best of Love,
JoelJ.C. Swisher
