TO : Commanding General, Camp Merritt, New Jersey.
(Thru Military Channels)Subject: Furlough.
1. Request that I be granted ten (10) days furlough to visit Peachbottom, Pa. where my Grandfather is very low. Telegram attached substantiating my claim.
2. I also request that I be allowed to rejoin my organization at Camp Dix, N.J. upon expiration of furlough.
3. I have sufficient funds to defray all expenses.

[Ed. Note: Joel arrived home too late to say goodbye to his grandfather, Cooper Stubbs, who died on May 29th, 1919. Joel was able to attend the funeral. Then he had to return 100 miles to Camp Dix, New Jersey, to await his discharge.]
