Dear Folks,
We are having some fine weather now, still in the same place as last week. I spent most of last week helping assemble a Y.M.C.A. building. Last night there was an entertainment in it by a couple of American women, a singer and a harpist from New York. Was very good. This week I am helping put up barracks.
I got your letter of July 1 day before yesterday. The French are beginning to cut wheat. The most of them are cutting with a cradle. Looks like a slow method. I expect harvest at home is all done by now. You folks have been asking for my picture. I still look the same as ever, so can’t see much use in having one taken but I did make a try at it some time ago and was not at all pleased with the result, but will try it again soon and if I am better satisfied I will send it.
Last winter you asked me to write to Hugh Harry. I did and sent it to the address you gave me and the letter came back.
Have you folks learned where I spent last winter and spring? Also I wrote you a letter sometime ago mentioning some of the towns, not in the Advance Section, that I have been in at different times. It should have [reached] you thru allright. Did it?
I like it fine out here. Only part of the company is here at present. We have it as fine as is possible in this country. Good work, good living conditions, fine weather and surrounded by pretty country.
Lovingly,
JoelJ.C. Swisher
