Dear Folks.
Had today off to take a bath and wash clothes. We have to do our own laundry here as we are not near a village of any size and there seems to be very few French civilians around here.
Today was Sunday—–a person would not know it around here. Work has to go on regardless of Sundays and holidays. We certainly have no right to complain because the troops in the lines have to fight regardless of what day it is.
Just now we are very comfortably situated. Have barracks with wooden floors and electric lights. That is one advantage of the Engineers after we get up a few barracks we have the privilege of living in them until the whole camp is complete. Then we move out and go some other place and do the same thing.
Most of last week was very good weather but this last couple of days it has rained a little.
We are located now where we can buy nothing from the French but can buy most everything we want in the ways of eating from the Commissary. Am spending quite a bit of money recently for jam, canned milk and and cookies. These things surely taste good just now.
Best of Love,
Joel
