Dear Aunt Mary,
Just wrote a short letter to the folks and one to Gatchells so will send thee a few lines while I am at it in case thee is at Stones when this reaches thee.
We surely have been busy recently. We work every day now including Sundays(1)for context, see the Hundred Days Offensive, so if my letters don’t come regular, don’t get alarmed as the daylight hours are full and at night there is sometimes not many writing conveniences. Am writing this in a Red Cross reading and writing room.
We have had very good weather this past week. No rain for 7 days. The country is pretty just now. The grass is green and the trees have all their fall colors. The French around here are digging their sugar beets. They have finished picking their grapes and the apples were picked more than a month ago. Apples were a small crop this year in all parts of France in which I have been.
We have very good quarters just now, sheet iron barracks with wooden floors in them. Are to be used for officers when we are thru with them.
Hope thee is well.
Lovingly,
Joel
