Dear Folks,
Just got your letter of Aug. 8 yesterday. Since I wrote last we have moved again, this time only for a few miles. We have just about completed the barracks and other buildings for a [Censored]. It is a fine location for a camp. On high rocky ground and about five miles from a town of any size.
Quite a bunch of soldiers from Camp Meade were only a few miles from here for a short time but I did not hear about it until after they had gone. I do not know whether I could have found any of the Fulton township fellows or not.
We have just had a week of rain. I thought the rain had set in for all winter but am glad to find it has not. We are having fine weather now.
I had my pictures taken a short time ago so am enclosing one. Let me know if it reaches you all right.
Sept. 19
At present we are sleeping in an old canal barge. It makes a bunking place and besides is quite safe.
It is now dinner time so must close.
Hope you are both well and have your corn cut by this time.
With Love,
JoelJ.C. Swisher
