Dear Folks,(1)Note the location in the dateline. With the end of the war, Joel was free to mention his location in letters.
Well the war is practically over, at least the fighting is, so you folks need not worry about me any more. Furthermore, I might not write very regular from now on as there is no great need of it. I got your letters of the last of Oct. yesterday. Mail is making good time now.
We are not doing much work just now, just a little repair work. Of course, no body knows anything definite yet but we have high hopes of being among the first to go home.
We are having pretty cold weather lately. The ground froze and thaws none during the day. We have had no rain for about a week but it looks and feels like snow this morning. I hope it keeps cold and snows, anything but rain.
I sure am glad you all are well fixed with wood and coal for the winter. You will at least have enough to do til I get home.
Here’s hoping you all are well,
Lovingly,
JoelJ.C. Swisher
