Thanksgiving 1917

Dear Folks,
I wrote to you about a week ago but have plenty of time today so will write a little.
We had a splendid dinner today. Turkey, asparagus, sweet potatoes, peas, bread and butter, cranberry sauce, apples and nuts and pumpkin pie. It was a dandy and I ate till I was ready to bust. I understand that all of the American soldiers in France had turkey for dinner today. The turkey and the extras certainly must cost the government quite a bit. But I guess when a fellow gets over here he deserves something like that once a year.
… I am perfectly well now and am walking all around and expect to get back to my company. But I must say they have treated me mighty fine since I came in here. United States takes good care of its soldiers when they go to the hospital even if they have nothing but the measles. (Nov. 30) I am assigned to duty today … my only wish is that you folks are feeling as well as I am.
With love,
Joel
